An Introduction to Caving

Few people are aware of the delicate ecosystems and maze of cave passage that lay hidden beneath the surface of Vancouver Island. Blessed with thousands of kilometers of subterranean passageways, there is much to explore and understand about these special environments. Our introduction to caving is a one day adventure tour where we explore some of the more accessible caves in the mid-island area.

We will venture into large chambers and visit dry stream passages that are marked with clues as to how these caves are formed. Your guide will show you examples of how these underground passages were formed, fossils embedded in passage walls and you will learn about the delicate calcite formations that adorn the passageways.

Your first adventure underground will leave you fascinated and inspiredl; ready to become an ambassador and protector of these rare and very special places.
